Kiama Quarriers
lost its unbeaten record going
down 2-0 against Helensburgh
Thistle at the Rex Jackson Oval
in its IFA District League game
last Saturday. It was Thistle's
first win of the season after
drawing its two previous games,
but the forwards constantly
threatened Kiama's goal and had
keeper, Tony Ristevski, to thank
for the low margin.
Steve Dick
returned from suspension and
with Tommy Mayes out injured
Billy Sterjovksi started his
full debut. But Kiama didn't
have many chances and Sterjovksi
and James Mortimer up front were
always toiling against a
well-organised defence. For all
their efforts in the first half,
Helensburgh could not capitalise
on its advantage and the teams
went in level at 0-0.
In the second
half, Helensburgh opened the
score and started to dominate
proceedings. But Gary Vian came
close for Kiama and Mortimer
missed a sitter before the
second goal killed the game off
for a disappointing Kiama
performance.
In the Reserves,
James Spence opened the scoring
for Kiama, but then Helensburgh
hit back hard with eight
unanswered goals.
The Youth Grade
faired better losing by the odd
goal in a closely fought 2-1
game. Michael Reminis scored for
Kiama.
This weekend,
second place Kiama meet winless
Bellambi in The Quarry and coach
Hernandez will be hoping for a
vast improvement in his charges.
